TEF classes  at Speakeng India 

TEF i.e. Test d’Evaluation de Français is another French proficiency test that evaluates a person’s level of French knowledge and was Created in 1998 by the Paris Ile-de-France CCI. 

Unlike DELF or DALF, TEF has no levels and a single test score determines your French language proficiency. While DELF and DALF certificates have a lifetime validity, TEF score is valid only for two years. 

TEF Exam has five different kinds and you should select the exam based on your objective of learning French. 

1. TEF Canada

Basically required for Immigration and Citizenship purposes in Canada, TEF Canada is a linguistic assessment by the Canadian government for people desiring the same.  

TEF Canada is almost equivalent to DELF B2 in its level. 

Based on the purpose, TEF Canada tests different skills in French proficiency. If you are looking at immigration, the mandatory test assesses Oral comprehension, Written comprehension, Oral expression and Written expression. On the other hand, if you are eyeing Canadian citizenship, the assessment would consist of Oral comprehension and Oral expression.

2. TEF Études

TEF Etudes mainly aims at testing Oral Comprehension, Written Comprehension,

Vocabulary & Syntax and Written expression.

It is mainly for non-French-speaking students who want to migrate to a French-speaking nation, for their studies.

3. TEF Naturalisation

For anyone looking at getting French citizenship or immigration to France, they can appear for TEF Naturalisation. It tests four major skills viz. written comprehension, oral comprehension, oral expression, and written expression. 

It’s almost equivalent to B1 level with regard to its difficulty. 

4. TEF Carte de resident

This is useful if someone is looking forward to getting a resident card from the French government. It tests written comprehension, oral comprehension, oral expression and written expression. Thus, the test syllabus is almost similar to TEF Naturalisation. 

You need not appear for TEF Carte de resident exam if you have cleared DELF A2 level.  

5. TEF Quebec

TEFAQ or Test d’Evaluation du Français adapté pour le Québec is the test that assesses French knowledge for immigration to Quebec or Canada under certain special programs.

Quebec’s Ministry of Immigration, Diversity, and Inclusion (MIDI) recognizes TEFAQ as part of an official immigration application.

TEF Quebec comprises of four sections out of which the oral parts are compulsory and the written sections are optional and can be used just to boost your score if you have reached that level in French. 

It comprises of Oral comprehension and Oral expression in the compulsory section while Written comprehension and Written expression in the optional section. 

Thus, it is specifically designed to test your speaking and listening skills.

All of these exams require a certain level of French proficiency and you should reach at least level 7 if you want it to be effective. Which is why you should have a proper learning map and strategy before appearing for the exam.
